Let's begin with 3 environmental hazards that are regulated, and difficult to control: NOx, VOCs and glycol. Fortunately, with better choices available for gas line protection, these are toxins you no longer have to deal with. Bruest systems produce virtually no NOx or VOCs, and do not use glycol in their operation.

  • NOx– This regulated pollutant can cause irritation of the eyes and throat, tightness of the chest, nausea, and headache. The Clear Skies Initiative dramatically reduced allowable emissions of NOx. The goal is to reduce emissions by 70% from year 2000 levels.

  • VOCs - Volatile organic compounds are defined by the Clean Air Act as chemicals that help form ozone, a respiratory toxicant. VOCs react with nitrogen oxides in the air, forming ozone and smog and contributing to the greenhouse effect.

  • Ethylene glycol - can damage the central nervous system, heart and kidneys. It is included on the list of chemicals subject to reporting requirements under Section 313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)
